It is I, the Trickiest.

John Guilyard is a multidisciplinary designer who has built a career across a diverse range of industries. Most recently, he’s lent his expertise to Google, following tenures at NBCUniversal and SAP.
John comes from humble beginnings, growing up in a small trucker town in Pennsylvania.  If you ask, he’ll probably tell you he’s "from the mud."  After graduating from The Pennsylvania State University with a BFA in Drawing & Painting, he relied on a mix of high self-efficacy and a relentless drive to up-skill, eventually carving out a path at some of the world’s leading companies.
He is an illustrator, designer, animator, painter, and object maker. At his core, John is simply a builder who is obsessed with learning new ways to create. When he isn’t working, he’s likely still "working" — sketching, traveling, painting, skiing, playing with his two dogs(Tatiana & Syrah), or making silly jokes with his friends & loved ones.
  • Visual Designer

    • Led the visual development of content for Google Research and Google DeepMind, including internal branding, logos, and websites.

    • Functioned as the lead presentation designer, creating high-stakes decks and templates for internal leadership and external facing projects.

    • Worked closely with researchers and team leads to storyboard and produce animations for the Google Research blog.

    • Employed advanced visual storytelling techniques across animations, illustrations, and web content to simplify complex research concepts.

    • Partnered cross-functionally with researchers and content strategists, ensuring all visuals supported key strategic communications.

  • Graphic Designer

    • Designed, animated, and illustrated marketing materials and Peacock advertisements that supported sales and revenue objectives for NBCUniversal clients.

    • Managed the production process for various visual content, maintaining high design craft while adhering to established brand standards of both NBCUniversal and their clients.

  • Marketing Design Specialist

    • Producing content supporting NBC News Group’s marketing and creative partnerships goals. 

    • Producing pitch decks, set/prop design, and any specialized graphics needed.

    • Supporting NBC News and all of it’s properties, including MSNBC, CNBC and the TODAY Show.

  • Digital Media Design Specialist

    • Created motion graphics, animation, pitch decks and infographics to support keynote events
      and regional sales enablement initiatives.

    • Collaborated directly with Account Executives and marketing teams, providing impactful visuals that strictly followed corporate brand guidelines.

  • Visual Artist Intern

    • Contributed illustrations and animations for internal social media success stories, supporting internal communication strategy.

    • Assisted in the full video production cycle, building foundational experience in storyboarding and post-production.
